Monster Cottage by Elyza, 5CG

I always walk home from school and never before have I got lost until the last Tuesday. As I was running along the golden, astonishing cornfield, my heart leapt as I heard a deafening scream. I stopped still, paralysed as the noise once again made the hairs on my neck stand up. I decided to go and investigate. As I crept down the pathway, I heard the cry again but this time, as well as scream, I heard laughing. I ran as fast as I could, my heart thumping against my aching chest until I reach an abandoned cottage with the door swinging open. Regretting my choice already, I stumbled to the broken door and went inside but should I have?

The cottage did look nice on the outside but inside the cottage it was loathsome.  Cobwebs and decayed wood covered the house making me want to be sick.  Every breath I took, a foul smell of rubbish filled my nose.  One thing that did catch my attention was a book that seemed to have my name on it. On the front cover of this book (that looked like it had not been opened for a thousand years) was a picure of a spooky, scary zombie. Another thing that I saw on the corner of my eye was a warning saying, "Do not open this book. It is cursed. Whoever opens it will get bad luck for the rest of their life. As soon as I opened it, I wanted to warn other people about what the Monster Book can do. This book is as dangerous as jumping off a tall cliff. Please do not ignore this message."

I decided (after about half an hour) that it is probably one of those silly warnings you get on an adults' book saying 'warning: seriously scary'. This was a bad idea. As soon as I opened it and began to read, strange noises began to ring in my ears. A few minutes later, a cold hand touched my shoulder. Screaming, I turned around and came face to face with a ghost. This obnoxious creature laughed at me, making me jump out of my skin.

I ran out of the room thinking, was the book possibly right? I slammed the door shut in the dismal bedroom and began to weep. Didn't it say that you'd get bad luck for the rest of your life? The more I thought, the more scared I got until I was disturbed by a deep growl.

I whipped my head around to see a terrible, emerald-green zombie staring into my deep blue eyes as it approached me viciously. I screamed, again, and stumbled out of the door. Panting, I tried to run and hide in every room but every time I bumped into a monster such as a mummy in the bathroom, a skeleton in the kitchen or a werewolf in the closet and much more.

"I definitely need to get out of here," I told myself, so I ran downstairs to the door and turned the handle but I couldn't open the door. I was stuck, maybe forever. It was then that I called for help which I thought would be useful.

"Help me!" I pleaded. "I'm stuck in an abandoned cottage with monsters in it." There was no reply. I needed to find the book. I ran and ran thinking, I can do it, I shall do it. Finally, I reached the contaminated room and monsters flooded in and an array of sounds gave me a headache. I reached for the handle once more and turned it again. Still, nothing. I would have to keep running from the monsters for the rest of my life. The faster I ran, the more tired I got. I already had lots of bruises and cuts and my temperature rose rapidly with every step I took. Someone would find me, someday.

Wondering why I came, I lay down hidden from the monsters for now, until someone had the courage to open the door of the cottage and let me out. Until that day, I will keep running from the monsters, missing my home and never knowing what time it is or which day it is. Will you let me out of this disgusting, horrible place?

So, never open a book with a warning. I have learned my lesson from the monster book. I only wanted to warn you about it and make sure that nobody opens it and that they don't get cursed.

Space Diary by Patrick, 5JB

I had an incredible day on Mars! We woke up to find we were on Mars! As my two companions Commanders Log and Sid were snoring away happily, I tiptoed down to the aisle. Sure exhilaration filled my body as I sat down to eat my cookie sandwich. Soon after, I was waving my hands in the air saying, "wake up!" With that, I put on the heavy, lumpy suit. Excitedly, I shot out the door! A huge rock was standing next to the scorched, forlorn, mouldy, old rocket. I stepped out on to the hot, red rock. Slowly, I bent down and touched the warm glow of rock. As my two companions trailed behind me, I stopped and stared. My mouth dropped open as wide as a elephant! Slowly I trembled over... to a mud house!

My attention was taken when Commander Sid fainted! Log said he would go back, so I started to trek though the wavering dust. I should have gone back but a gooey, green and sloppy thing with one eye came squelching before me. I sprinted as fast as I could in my space suit. A dust of misty mess trailing behind. Soon enough I got back. I slammed open the hard, metal, ice-cold door and my legs pushed me in. "What was that?" I said under my breath. "I'll find out tomorrow." I sat down on the hard seat and breathed a sigh of relief as I chewed through a nice sandwich made of chilli peppers which blew my mouth out.  Just then, NASA announced we had found life - Well Done!

Slowly but carefully, I crept into bed and fell sound asleep.

Spooky Story by Lily, 5JB

One thundery night, Jake, who was very courageous, crept slowly through the damp, mysterious woods. Meanwhile, he found an abandoned cottage which had brown leaves and broken branches falling into the chimney. Pointy, sharp thorns were surrounding the old cottage. Tip-toeing towards the house, he faltered when he heard a loud noise. He panicked. Soon he got to the cottage and opened the creaky, black door. ''Hello is anybody there?" said Jake frightened.

Without closing the door, he headed towards the main living room and looked around. In the corner of his eye, there was a shimmering, shiny piece of gold on a dusty, dirty book on a mantelpiece.  "There's a warning on it: Strange things will happen to you in the house. Open if you dare! I don't think that's true! What's on the back? This will happen if you open it alone," murmured Jake.  Jake looked around and heard absolute silence.   He could only hear the broken branches breaking from outside.  Seconds later, he opened the book.  "This is just an old book! Nothing is going to happen!" shouted Jake.

Suddenly the creaky, un-oiled doors slammed as fast as a speedy panther.  He crept towards the wooden door and opened it tentatively.  "I need to get out of here," muttered Jake loudly.  He heard a noise . You cant get out! Jake was frightened . There was a revolting smell coming from from the kitchen and the mysterious voice came again. You are haunted Jake! " How did you know my name replied Jake. Jake saw the shinning, golden, shimmering book glowing. He walked towards the book and close it. Soon, he found a hammer next to a box. Jake grabbed the hammer. The stomping was still very loud but, he managed to smash the window open as fast as light. He jumped out and he was free! " I'm never going there again!" screamed Jake.

Spooky Story by Joe, 5JB

One cold, miserable evening, two boys named Max, who was very courageous, and Lewis, who was very nervous, stumbled over the crooked path that led to an abandoned cottage without realising it, after being waterlogged by a rain cloud that soaked them head to toe.
"I wonder where this weird path leads to," giggled Max, knowing that Lewis was afraid.
"I don't know, but I don't want to find out." Suddenly, Max walked straight into a disintegrating wall.
He then exclaimed, "Woah," after he picked himself up from the floor.  "Is that some sort of cottage?"

Then, out of nowhere, the door swung open with an ear-splitting creak. "I dare you to go in!" they both chanted at the same time.  So, even though it was surprising for Lewis, they both went in.
"What has happened here?!" Lewis yelled, looking at the bloody footprints on the wall and bones on the floor.  Max didn't hear because he was studying the strange book on the mantlepiece.  He went to pick it up.
"Weird. It's called..." he muttered to himself. "If you open this thing the billers will sing and if you come in a scream team you will soon hear a scream."

"Don't open it," Lewis said.
"Don't worry.  It's all pish posh," he said but before he opened it, he noticed the mesmerising colour of the book: purple with gold stripes.  Pretty, he thought, as he opened it.
"Awww, it's blank," he groaned, slamming it loudly shut.  A loud thud sounded suddenly behind him.  He spun around only to see a lifeless Lewis with bleeding ears lying on the floor, dead.  He wondered how a book slamming could kill someone.  It was then Max started hallucinating really bad.  So bad it was like he was dying.  Something warm and wet wrapped around his ankle like a tongue.  It fact...it was a tongue.  He went to the door, trying to pull the tongue off.  It was locked.  Suddenly, the tongue-like thing got hauled rapidly into a basement pulling a screaming Max with it.  A loud burp echoed around the village.

Fashion Through The Years by Libby, 5JB

In this report, I am focusing on how fashion has charged over three decades 1900s, 1900s and 1940s. I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the decades - there will also be conclusion.

Firstly, I would like to discuss the differences over the years. The first difference I would like to tell you about is the outfits and how they have changed over the years. In the 1900s they wore s-bend corset style tops with a pair of trousers. In the 1920s they wore barrel shaped outfits. And last but not least, in the 1900s they wore knee - high skirts, with boxy jackets.

Furthermore, another difference is the materials that the outfits were made out of. In the 1900s, the clothes they had were mostly made out of different types of fabric. In the 1920s, the clothes were made of curtains with patterns on from the windows. The reason for clothes being made from curtains from the window was because in the 1940s there was a war and this affected the money they had and also what materials they could buy.  Finally, the clothes in the 1940s were mostly made from cotton and fluffy fabrics.

On the other hand, exactly the same things have remained the same about fashion over the years.  One such similarity is the hats they wore.  All throughout the 1900s and the 1920s, they wore hats.  I think the reasons they were hats in those times were because they may have had to cover their heads back then and also they might have wanted to cover their heads from the sun in hot countries as well.

Additionally, fashion has also remained the same because we have always worn clothes that are made out of fabrics, cotton and fur, sometimes even wool.  Jackets were often worn.  I think this is because people liked to keep warm and also keep their shoulders covered.

In conclusion, I believe that there are many similarities and differences.  The most important of these are the differences because everyone has to be different and everyone has to wear different things.  It is also great to be different because no-one wants to be the same otherwise the world would be boring.

Wizard in my Potting Shed by Ella, 5JB

“In some water you will seek, what I mean when I speak,” muttered the crazy man, adding no expression at all. The wizard captured a thought, dropped his quill and darted straight through a chart of the periodic table. A slight draft searched out every gap in my hair. I could hear a thud getting louder and closer, louder and closer, until it stopped. A warmer and stronger draft brushed my face. It happened again, this time it was heavier and royal blue flames shot out of what looked like colossal nostrils. Or were they?

Sleeping Beauty and her Godmother by Poppy, 5EG

A long time ago, in a far-away kingdom, there lived a king called Sir King and a queen called Queen Away.  One day, the queen's baby was born and they called her Aurora.  She didn't have much hair but you could just about see her golden locks.  Aurora also had sky-blue eyes, rosy-red cheeks and also rosy-red lips.

Because Maleficent was so kind and generous to the baby, the King and Queen made her Aurora's fairy godmother.  To celebrate the baby's birthday, they threw a massive fancy-dress party with flashing disco lights, ballroom dancing music, brightly-coloured balloons and ruby-red roses.

After the party, Maleficent took Aurora to the Magical Moors and showed her all the fairies.  Last but not least, Maleficent showed her the Tree of Life where the three main fairies were waiting to grant some gifts to the child.

Flora, the red fairy, said softly and gently, "I wish for you to have beautiful, golden, wavy hair."
Then Forna, the green fairy, giggled whilst saying, "Sweet Aurora, I wish for you to be loved by every animal."

Then suddenly there was a deafening scream and a loud cackle.  Far away in the distance they saw a spooky shadow.  Scared, the fairies hid behind the king and queen and started squealing like little mice.  Soon enough, the shadow was no longer a shadow - it was an evil fairy called...Maleficent!

As quick as a flash, the king, queen, Aurora and the three fairies sprinted out of the moors up the hills to the castle grounds.  Suddenly, right in front of them was Maleficent.  She snatched the baby off the queen and standing granting her curse, "Before the sunsets on her 16th birthday, she shall fall down a well and break all her bones so she can't get out!"

Then she disappeared out of nowhere...

The Lonely Cottage by Lydia 5SH

Have you ever seen something that can't be explained? Or overheard something that shocked you? I don't mean people saying rude things on the street or seeing a magic trick.  I mean something that will change your life forever.  That's what happened to Beckie and me and we're still shocked by it now.  The memories of that terrible time haunt us still...

My name is Tara and I am 11 years old.  My sister Beckie and I would always go for walks and go exploring.  We loved it!  We loved finding hidden paths and things that we never knew were there.  On the day I want to tell you about, it was beautifully sunny.  Beckie and I were striding along as usual and I noticed a little path running between the trees.  Curious, I crept over to have a closer look.   "Come on," I called to Beckie.  "Let's explore!"  Beckie held back.  She was always shy.
"No," she called anxiously.  "What if it's dangerous?"  Knowing what I know now, I wish I'd listened to her.

Quickly, I dragged Beckie over to the gloomy pathway and started dashing along the tiny, bumpy path.  It had slimy weeds running all over it like living tripwires and the trees blocked out the sun.  The birds, which were pretty, bright colours, had been replaced with owls and crows.  A wolf's spine-tingling howl echoed in the distance. "I don't like this," whined Beckie.  "Let's go back."
"No!" I announced firmly.  "Let's carry on."

10 minutes later we were still walking.

At last, we reached somewhere.  We found an abandoned cottage in the woods.  Time had not been kind to the house.  It was covered in murky shadows and think, brambly weeds.  The trees around it, which were once lush and green had withered away and died.  Their long, spindly branches looked as if they were about to reach out and grab you.  Cracked and dirty, the windows had white cobwebs blowing around like old man's hair.  It have grown dark and there was a pale full moon in the sky.  Another wolf howled, its lonely cry sending shivers down my spine.  I gulped, remembering tales of werewolves I had heard recently.  Trembling nervously, I marched down the track.  Everything was deathly quiet.  A twig cracked. I screamed. Beckie yelped too.

Grasping the doorknob in my sticky hand, I yanked the door open and found myself in a small room.  Weird. I mean, who has their living room as soon as you walk in the door? It certainly wasn't a pretty sight.  No-one had entered it for years.  I stared around and I saw a dusty book on the mantle-piece - almost as dusty as the room itself.  It seemed to be drawing me in, pulling me closer. Walking towards it, I tried to stop myself but it was too late.  As if controlled by an unseen force, I slowly lifted the cover of the book.  Beckie screamed.  "What's up?" I snapped, jumping around.
"I saw a...a thing!" Beckie whimpered.
"So what?" I yelled. "Everyone sees things.  I'm a thing."  Beckie was close to tears but I ignored her.  Then I saw it. A ghostly shadow flitting around use.  I gripped Beckie's hand in mine and started running for the door.  It opened....and I found myself in another room.

We never found the door.  Beckie and I are still walking. We don't know how long we've been here and we are tormented by the ghosts of the book.  We're still walking...
