Multi-Sensory Cairo, 4WR

As I stepped off the dainty, blue feluka I gazed at the beautiful city in front of me. When I walked closer to the city the smell of smoke  got stronger and stronger. When I got to the middle of the city the sound of music filled my ears. I walked onwards then stopped and looked up-there above me were minarets sparkling in the sky like a bunch of fireflies dancing. Suddenly I heard a strange noise, I jumped and turned around, it was someone praying in Egyptian. It sounded like they were praying for food and animals. Then someone riding a donkey went past. He looked at me and stopped, he looked at me again, even closer, then left. I felt nervous and puzzled.

As I stepped off the small, cramped feluka I saw young and old people wearing long, swishy robes. As I walked I noticed old people smoking and playing games. Excited and curious, I was eager to look around, to see what was different from England. I heard people haggling loudly. I saw the houses were different from England, they were narrow instead of being wide. I could smell spicy food being cooked and it smelt good. As I walked, people brushed gently past me. I saw people selling musty carpets.

As I got off the tiny feluka, I gazed at the amazing buildings in the distance. I could hear the sound of beautiful music flowing through the narrow streets. As the people walked up the stairs, I could hear them talking and I didn’t understand them. The choking smoke from the shisha pipes all around me filled my nostrils and I felt sick. I felt scared, worried and anxious about being in this strange, beautiful city.

As I carefully stepped off the small feluka, I saw a huge, colourful building ahead of me. I heard people shouting to pray in the mosque. When I was walking down the streets I saw men smoking  shisha pipes. I heard people speaking different languages, I was confused! I felt scared and excited at the same time as I touched the bumpy wall of the mosque. Suddenly, a noisy group of men brushed quickly past me and I wondered where they were going to in such a rush.

The Tree by Sammy, 3SB

A hollow tree stood directly in front of me.  There was a small opening at the back of the tree so I cleared away some thick ferns. Hesitantly, I clambered inside.  I started exploring cautiously.  I climbed on to a branch. I could feel damp as I clambered on to the middle.  The tree was gloomy. Sitting there on a tree, suddenly I realised how small I was compared to it.  I squeezed in through a dark, twisting, ante-tunnel and slid through the other side.  The ferns were covering the entrance like a den.  The small bird holes would be a perfect window.  It would be perfect for a look-out tower.  I went up to the top of the tree to see all the beautiful plants outside clinging to the leaves.  I wondered weather the aboriginal children played here 100 million years ago.  I went through the secret, rare tunnel and started exploring again.  I found a rather rare beetle.  It was black with yellow spots.  It was extraordinary.  Also, I spotted a spider with an unpleasant breath.  I went back up to the window.

Cairo Multi-Sensory Locational Writing by Tosca, 4JP

I saw busy, big shops absolutely everywhere.  I heard strange people talking happily in a different, mysterious language.  I could feel the extremely soft, snug horse fur.  Trying to breath, I walked through a mob of men smoking - it was like a dust storm! 

As I walked, I also heard relaxing, Egyptian music.  I felt just like an Egyptian.  I also heard people shouting because the price was too much - it was as expensive as gold.  

Suddenly, it got very, very hot.  I fainted.  I woke up when a man tipped a large bowl of water on my head. 

Archaeology Journal by Ellie, 4JP

Dear Diary,

I am very nervous because Howard Carter has just invited me to Alexandria for his dig.  We are going to the Valley of the Kings!  It's a once in a lifetime experience.

I am excited but it could be scary.  You never know what's going to happen.  I am going to really miss my family! I wonder if I am going to get stuck in a sand storm!  That would be really scary.  If I did, would I ever get out...?

On the other hand, it could be fun, discovering things no one has ever seen before and famous Architecture! So exciting!

We might find tombs or kings like Tutankhamun. The sphinx? Canopic jars? Anything would be good!

I can't wait!

Journey To Cairo by Chloe, 4CP

When I got on the vast faluka, I suddenly heard the crashing of the waves and the furious wind was so strong that I thought the sail was about to break! Soon I was off!

The cool breeze was so nice, considering it was scorching hot. I was a little bit scared of the thought of the boat tipping over because the crocodiles were snapping their jaws furiously at the boat, while the men (wearing colourful dresses) were shooing them away.

The fishy smell was horrible. I was very excited to get to Cairo, even though it was very hot and busy. Soon I caught sight of a slight point in the land. Then it got bigger. I was a pyramid! We were almost there!
