Oktapodi by 4JP

These pieces of writing were inspired by the movie, Oktapodi, from the Literacy Shed.

One day in a fish bowl far, far away, Mango and Tango were calmly hugging each other when...PLOP! Tango got taken out of the rectangular, glass fish bowl into a maroon-coloured van.  Mango, who was freaked out and heartbroken, clambered up the side of the fish bowl and ran like the wind, eventually reaching enough extreme speed to catch up with the super fast van.  Bravely, he sneaked across the sid of the van and through the open, shattered window. Awkwardly, Mango managed to fight his way in, missing the colossal slap of the fishmonger's hand.  All of a sudden, Tango hit the handbrake, causing the mean driver to spin around like crazy.  They were flying!

Nervously, the 43-year-old man dangerously stood on the comfy-leather seats to get the two octopuses which were on the roof.  The man started to pound them against the green, metal roof, until Mango and Tango started squirting him with ink.  Without warning, an electricity wire hit his hand and electricuted him.  Then, he carried on driving, not realising that they got away on the wire. Soon, the horrible driver went overboard into the sea.  But then a fat seagull came to take Mango.  In the blink of an eye, Tango shot herself towards the seagull.

Dear Mr Fishmonger,

I would like to make a complaint.  The fish-tank you make me stay in was atrocious.  You gave me terrible food and the space in there was very very small.  Why did you take my wife? If I had been fed good food, maybe I would say "thank you".  You, my friend, are a complete and utter disgrace.  It was the worst experience of my life.  If I were you, I wouldn't continue your career.

Jim (The Octopus)

To Jim,

I think you are completely wrong but I'm also sorry.  In future, I will give you a bigger fish tank and better food.  I will try to make your life better.  I'm sorry for taking your wife.  Will you forgive me?  I will try to be a better fishmonger.  Can we be friends?

After the fishmonger was out of sight of Sapphire and Dave, the octopuses were finally reunited with each other's company until this ungrateful seagull called Fanta swooped down and collected Dave.  It flew away into the distance.  Sapphire moved to the centre of the old, manky washing line, leaned back and flung herself after Dave.  Meanwhile, Dave was squirming and shaking, trying to get out of the hard, firm grip of the gull.  Sapphire was being propelled by the strong wind and current of the ocean.  During this, Dave managed to turn around and who appeared but the love of his life, Sapphire!

She was flying like a bird, gracefully, swiftly and elegantly. Then, Sapphire showed her aggressive side.  She stuck to Fanta and ink and slapped him until he eventually dropped Dave.  She also found she was falling down and down, gradually descending towards the ocean where they belong and where they would stay for their entire lives.

Alma by 4JP

Ellie

It was a misty, cold morning when Alma was skipping through the empty, windswept streets.  She went past a shop.  A doll shop.  The doll in the window looked at Alma with bright, blue eyes like her own and a subtle smile.  All of a sudden, her eyes widened. Her mouth dropped. She gasped. The doll looked just like her.

She look around then back again.  It moved.  There clearly wasn't anyone in the shop. It must have moved alone.  Alma instantly decided to investigate.  She tried the door.  It was locked.  Grumpily, she walked away.  CREEEEAK!  The door opened.  Amazed, she turned back and ran in.  Alma stared at the doll with keen eyes.  A little boy doll creaked on the floor.  Carefully, Alma knelt down and picked it up.  It wheeled itself into the door with a loud SMACK! Alma didn't care. She eyed the doll...it eyed her back.

Slowly, I reached up to get the doll...

Suddenly, the mysterious doll jumped out of its place.  It smashed the window and jumped through it.  I was so shocked that I just fainted...

It was 10 o'clock at night when I woke up with a scream.  I looked around, the shop was empty.  I tried to get up but I was frozen with fear.  As soon as I got up, I ran out the door.  When I got out, a terrible sight met my eyes...

Houses on fire, screaming people and a lot more.  After I calmed down a bit, I asked a man what was going on.  All the man said was, "the curse, the curse!"
"What curse?" I asked.
"The curse of the dolls," he said.

Before I could ask any more questions, he started running off again.  I turned around to see what all the people were running from and I saw the dolls that were in the shop.  But they were different.  They had green eyes and green slime coming out of their mouths.  Then I saw a little girl about my age running, but she didn't make it because a doll jumped up on her and bit her.  Suddenly, she turned into another doll!

A few days later, everyone in the world except me was turned into a doll.  I had no choice but to stay in the shop hoping they wouldn't find me, but I was wrong.  The doll that looked like me found me and bit me...

I felt cold. I was the last person in the whole world to be bitten. Was this the end?

WW1 Diary by Zoe, 4JP

This diary entry is written by Zoe as a character, Freddie, from Michael Foreman's book, War Game.

Dear Diary,

Today, we heard that Britain is going to war and I'm signing up.  The more I thought about it, the more anxious I got.  It's going to be really exciting fighting against another country and shooting guns.  Billy thinks it's not going to take long and things it is an adventure.  Will isn't so sure about it.  He thinks that we could get killed, but I don't believe him.  We are fighting against Italy, Germany and Austria-Hungary.

Tomorrow, we are going to the army recruitment office to sign up with my friends.  When I get there, I think I'll see lots of people ready to go to war and leaders.

Yours,

Freddie
