Jaguar Trials, Sapphire Streak by Poppy, 6JH

The Trial Of The Sapphire Streak

The wind howled. The trees shivered in the bitterly cold weather. All the flowers collapsed, unable to stay upright. The clouds blocked the sunlight from breaking through. The wind made the waterfall move backwards and forwards, making it thunder dramatically against the pool of deep blue water below. The trees were being uprooted and one of them almost came crashing down . Fortunately, it was able to keep its balance.

Raphael decided that they all should sit down and wait for the storm to pass when suddenly, they heard a cracking noise. “It sounds like the cavern is going to collapse soon.” warned Yara, but they, obviously, couldn’t go outside because it could be dangerous. They huddled together to get warmer and not to get wet by the miserable rain.

Ben spotted a twinkle in the pool of water below them so he decided to go and investigate. “Yara, Raphael, I have seen a little twinkle in the water. Wait there. I am going to venture; it might be a clue.” He said Bravely as he nervously walked over to the opening. The water was calling him, so he dived in. A little piece of gold was stuck to the top of another cavern. There were stairs leading further down. He decided to go back up, take a big breath and call the others so they can explore together.

They entered the cavern and started tiptoeing down the stairs. The water had stopped so they could now breathe. When they were at the bottom of the cave, they heard a bang.“I...I...I...think the...d...d...d...doorway has closed.” stuttered Raphael. It was all dirty and mossy and ancient and loads of torches were strapped to the wall. Yara picked up the torch closest to her and suddenly, a wall opened up revealing something amazing. Something you have never seen before or even dreamed of seeing.

A great, big, pink crystal was sat on a stand brightening up the whole room. Ben grabbed it.The cavern started shaking. It was crumbling to pieces. “RUN!” shouted Yara, they ran for the other side of the cave. Water was bursting through. Streams of water were running down the stairs, catching up with them. They ran this way, that way until they came to a dead end…

“Lets search the walls for any buttons or something to push it open .” Rafael suggested. Yara found a glint of light through a crack and she told the others to pull it. They pulled with all their might and a rock comes tumbling down and it hits the ground. They could now feel the water running around their feet. “On the count of 3, pull...1...2...3...PULL!” Ben shouted as they heaved. Finally the wall came crashing down. Ben’s wound hurt a lot by then so they really needed to get some rest. At least they were free! The sun was setting and the sky was pink so they made up camp for the night in the jungle, underneath a tree.

“Ben...Ben,” Ben could hear someone whispering to him. Was it a dream? Then he had a sudden flashback, “The crystal… it’s...GONE!”...
